In Smiths Advanced Metals case, this world already exists. We offer a range of first stage engineering processes which shortens the supply chain and saves your business money.

Read the case study below to see how we can help your business:

The Problem

An exploration equipment manufacturer was making an aluminium catch net by specialised machining on circles. The original order with Smiths was, however, for squares which were then sub-contracted by the customer to be cut into circles, only to be returned back to the customer for component manufacture.

The Solution

We discussed the customers' requirements and now supply ready cut circles for final machining.

Customer Benefits

  • More control over the product
  • Shortened supply chain
  • Substantial cost savings on total cost of the circles
  • Savings on hidden costs of raising purchase orders, goods-in procedures, etc.
  • Traceability link guaranteed

Conclusions

Using sophisticated machinery and operators may not be worthwhile for relatively simple jobs. It can often be more cost effective to let us carry out the more basic engineering work for you and the leave the costly expert machining to you because that is your area of expertise.

Our first stage engineering processes include circles, rings, billeting, gang slitting, plate sawing, guillotining, profiling and blanking.
